Spain wins European Championship

The team defeated Germany 1-0

The Spanish national team won the second European Championship in its history after defeating Germany 1-0 in Vienna, thanks to a goal scored by Fernando Torres. This ends a 44- year drought, in which the Spanish were unable to win an international title.

Spain had a hesitating start, but afterwards showed its best play to win with defensive efficiency and a precise attack. The German team had captain Michael Ballack, who showed he is in excellent shape since the start of the match, but that was not enough for the Teutonic team to defeat the Red Fury.

After a shot by Xavi was stopped by goalkeeper Jens Lehmann, Spain was again the team it had been in previous matches. Fernando Torres drove midfielders Merzelder and Per Mertesacker mad. However, Germany did not give up and taking advantage of the abilities of Schweinsteiger, Klose and Podolski, put its rival in a tight corner.

Torres scored in the 33rd minute and after that, the Spanish continued attacking the German defense that could not stop them. When the match finished, the celebration started for the Spanish team. The players paid tribute to coach Aragones, captain Iker Casillas hugged Michele Platini and King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia.

While all the players saluted fans, Fernando Torres run wrapped in a Spanish flag, took the Cup and celebrated his goal, a goal that made him great and made all Spain scream “Champion!” after 44 years.
